Alive bomb weighing 250 kilograms was found in the Norman area of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday. This is the fifth such bomb recovered from the area since December 9.
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Director Tawhid ul Ahsan said, “It is thought that there are more bombs left here. However, the location of the bomb could not be identified even after scanning the area several times. It seems the bombs are buried deep into the ground.”
The first bomb was recovered from the under-construction terminal at the airport area on December 9. Since then, three more bombs were recovered on December 14, 19, and 26. On Wednesday, fifth such bomb was recovered.
“Fearing discovery of more bombs, the under-construction area is under heavy scrutiny”, said AKM Maksudul Islam, Director (PD) of the third terminal construction project.
Bomb experts believe that the bombs found at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport may have been dropped during the 1971 LIberation War.
